Distinguished Service Order

Criteria
A member of 266 shall receive the Distinguished Service Order after that member has served with the squadron for a period of one year. During that time, the squadron member will have flown regularly in 266 uniform, will have been a frequent attender of training nights, will have taken part in other squadron activities and will generally have maintained the profile, reputation, standing and honour of the squadron. A bar to the DSO will be awarded for every further year served in this manner.

History
The DSO performed fundamentally the same function as the MC did in World War One; however, it was almost always awarded to officers of the rank of Major and above. It was frequently awarded for continued good service rather than a particular act of gallantry.
